Credit Monitoring and File Alerts

"People who are targeted by fraudsters often take up to 14 months to realise they are victims of identity fraud."  By that time, the damage to your credit can be severe, and it can take a very long time to clean it up!

The Solution: E-mail and text alerts!

Watch for...

  • The addition or deletion of a credit account.
If the action wasn't initiated by you or another member of your household it could be evidence of fraud.
  • A change in the payment history of a credit account.
Watch for accounts that have fallen into arrears. A thief who has gained access could be the cause.
  • The addition or deletion of a judgment, voluntary arrangement, or bankruptcy.
Don't be the last to know! An unexpected judgment could also be caused by an identity theft.
  • A search of your Experian credit report.
An unexpected search of your credit report could mean that someone is trying to use your name to get credit.
  • The addition or deletion of a Notice of Correction.

You can add a short explanatory statement to your credit report, which will be seen by companies searching your report in the future. If the statement is changed, you need to know about it.

Detect Fraud

It pays to be on the lookout for loan applications you didn't make, unauthorised credit accounts opened in your name, unexpected searches of your credit history, or sudden significant changes in your revolving account balances. These can be indicators that your identity may have been used fraudulently.

Ensure Accuracy

It also pays to verify legitimate activity. Your credit report holds information from many sources, and the information is updated often.  If an update is missing or wrong, it can affect your ability to get credit.  Something as simple as a missed or late payment can damage your credit status. It can take time to make corrections. Credit monitoring helps avoid last-minute surprises that could result in your being denied credit -- just when you need it most.
